SUPPORT: Step Together Youth Project Volunteering

Step Together is a national charity that aims to transform lives through community volunteering and their young people’s project in Bristol specifically supports 16-25 year olds with complex needs. They offer flexible 1:1 support to help the young person to identify suitable voluntary roles by taking them on visits to different organisations, negotiate the right opportunity and to complete applications. They can also help the young person to prepare for interviews and attend with them, go with them to their initial volunteering sessions or induction days, and also provide ongoing emotional support throughout the volunteering placement for as long as they need. Furthermore, Step Together work directly with organisations to create bespoke volunteering roles for the young people they support to fit their interests and goals. They also have a small bursary which can cover any specific equipment they might need for volunteering, such as work boots or a uniform, and have even bought bikes for people in the past.

So far they have matched our clients with roles such as youth work, catering, digital fabrication (laser-cutting/3D printing), hospitality, gardening, graphic design, carpentry and more. Their criteria for multiple complex needs is flexible, but ultimately the project is most suited to those who would be able to progress into volunteering independently, so it works well for people with mental health needs, lack of self confidence, limited English etc.

Please get in touch if you would like to make a referral (form attached) or to discuss someone who you think might be suitable. Also please contact me if you would just like to know more about the project or if you think you could offer an interesting and exciting supported voluntary placement to one of our prospective volunteers. Please see flyer attached.
