September at Ways2Work

Ways2Work News

Welcome to a new academic year. We have reached 2020/2021, which feels like a milestone! We expect there to be a large increase in the number of courses available in Bristol and the West of England over the next week or so both online and in Covid-secure classes or one to one settings. Please keep an eye on the daily emails we send out or the website and calendar so you can support clients into the best provision.

We’d love to make sure our Ways2Work directory is up to date and covers your organisation. Take a look and let us know if your organisation or an organisation you know of that provides employment support could be included. I’ve attached a form for this.

Next Virtual Jobs Fair

The second virtual jobs fair will be held on 8 September at 11am (please note the new start time). Join Ways2Work, DWP, National Careers Service, B&NES, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils and employers from the West of England on Facebook and Twitter by searching for and using the hashtag #WestOfEnglandJobsFair.

Add it to your diary now! If you’d like more details, email chris.mitchell@bristol.gov.uk.

Recap of network meeting

We had our fourth online network meeting on Wednesday 26th August. We heard from Nick Toulson from the employer Bouygues about opportunities at their construction site at Castle View Park and from Ruth Pitter from Black South West Network about the training they do on equalities and racial awareness. To contact them for more information, please email admin@bswn.org.uk. I’ve attached their presentation.

We discussed how offices and places of work are opening and will follow this up at the next network meeting. Please fill in our questionnaire on Opening Safely to have your say on what you think and feel about the changes.

We won’t be holding a network meeting in September. The next one will be on 7 October at 10am. You can book a place now on Eventbrite.

Network news

Courses are beginning to start back in physical locations. This September we anticipate online and physical courses to be picking up all the time so keep an eye out for what’s on and where.

We’d be happy to share details of your employment and skills events and courses. Just email them through to ways2work@bristol.gov.uk as normal and please make sure you include the start date so we know where to put it.
