Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship

As an apprentice, you will make a difference by playing an important part in supporting the delivery of a high quality payroll and pensions service.

What will you be doing?

• You’ll learn the end to end payroll process, which will include: setting up new employee records, processing subsequent permanent changes, whilst ensuring there is compliance with auto enrolment regulations.
• You’ll also learn how to process leavers, calculate final pay, produce and dispatch P45’s and pension scheme documentation.  Check and process timesheets, overtime, and other temporary variation forms including sickness and absence returns.
• You’ll develop knowledge of Statutory and Occupational rules regarding Maternity, Sick, Adoption and Paternity Pay, compliance with Income Tax, National Insurance Contribution legislation and Pension Scheme regulations.
• In addition you’ll be taught how to deal with phone/e-mail queries.
• The most challenging aspects of your apprenticeship will be meeting deadlines, planning your workload, problem solving and feeling confident when dealing with internal and external clients.
• Throughout your 18 month apprenticeship, we will allocate you a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support in completing your Level 3 Payroll Administrator, which is work based learning and consists of online 1-2-1’s and group taught training.

What we need from you

• Ideally hold a minimum of GCSE A*-C (or Grade 4-9) or equivalent qualification in English and Maths or be willing to undertake and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship.
• Good numeracy skills and excellent attention to detail.
• You will need good organisational and time management skills.
• Strong communication skills to communicate effectively in a variety of situations such as: in writing, in person and on the telephone.
• You must have a good work ethic and commitment to gaining your qualification as well as your learning on the job and your employment.

The apprenticeship training is all work based learning and will consist of online 1-2-1’s and group taught training.  To successfully complete the apprenticeship you will be required you to complete an end point assessment that consists of an On Demand Test, Practical Observation and Business Project.
