1. A coalition of employers in Bristol has been formally recognised by the Living Wage Foundation for their work to make Bristol a Living Wage City, the largest city in the UK to achieve this new status. Read more here and visit the Living Wage Foundation’s website here.
2. Bristol@Night is an independent advisory group that makes recommendations on how the city can collaboratively protect and enhance its unique and inclusive night life. An event takes place on Monday 10 February (6pm-9pm) at City Hall, College Green BS1 5TR at which the work carried out by Bristol@Night since its launch in November 2018 will be discussed and reviewed. 3. The UK Government’s Gigabit Voucher Scheme aims to make it easier for businesses and homes to get future-proof gigabit-ready broadband. Vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit-capable connection. Businesses can claim up to £2.5k against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme with a voucher worth £500 as part of a group project. But the offer is time-limited; businesses can find out more here.
4. Enterprise Nation’s first Bristol small business meet up of 2020 takes place on Thursday 30 January (10am-11.30am) at The Crazy Fox, The Arcade, Broadmead BS1 3JD; more here.
5. Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a Local Enterprise Partnership-led initiative offering eligible businesses in the West of England funded training courses to help them grow and upskill their workforce. SSW works with employers to develop bespoke training relevant to their needs, and because it’s co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), training can be provided at no cost to the business; more here or see attached. 6. The Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH) is running a free-to-attend two day Entrepreneur Programme for eligible early stage companies operating in the sustainable tech or low carbon sector in the West of England. Run by SETsquared and supported by the European Regional Development Fund, the programme takes place on Monday 10 & Tuesday 11 February at the University of Bath’s Innovation Centre, Broad Quay BA1 1UD; full details here.
7. Bristol Shopping Quarter’s new LoyalFree app can be used to find local deals, loyalty schemes, events and trails straight from your smartphone. Not only this, it showcases other local information including a really useful what’s on guide. 9. Festivals and live-events play a big part in the delivery of Arts and Culture in Bristol, and much of the research in this industry has been focused on audience impact. There has been little or no research on the work that goes into putting these events on or the workers who make them happen. Bristol Festivals would like to be better informed in understanding who, why and how people work in the festival/live-events industry – either on events taking place within the city or surrounding area or living in Bristol but working on festivals and events elsewhere; read more, and if it’s relevant to you, take the survey, here.
10. Going for Gold is the city-wide effort to change food in Bristol for good, and be recognised as a Gold Sustainable Food City by the end of 2020. The campaign is inviting all citizens of Bristol to take stock of their eating habits, and by loging an Eating Better action as an individual on the Going for Gold website in January or February and you could win a bundle of goodies; more here and here.
11. Age Proud Bristol is an awareness campaign run by Bristol Ageing Better that challenges perceptions of older people in Bristol and encourages people to feel proud of their age. The campaign – which will feature the stories Age Proud Ambassadors – will run until the end of March; more here.
